About PurifierBeast UK

Who writes this site
My name is Daniel Webb. I am the founder and editor of PurifierBeast UK. I also run the original PurifierBeast.com, which covers the US market. The UK edition exists because the two markets are genuinely different — different model codes, different certifications, different electricity costs, and different indoor air quality standards — and most "best air purifier UK" pages are little more than US copy with pound signs swapped in.
I research and write every page on this site. There are no ghostwriters, no AI-generated product descriptions, and no paid placements. Picks are based on published data, UK-specific certification evidence, and filter cost arithmetic — not manufacturer relationships.
Why a UK edition
Three things make the UK market distinct enough to need its own coverage:
- UK model codes are not the same products. A Philips 3200 sold in the UK (AC3220/10) may differ from the US-market model in filter specification and certification status. We only review the UK-SKU variant.
- UK certifications are different. The US-centric AHAM CADR test is useful for comparing airflow, but UK buyers should also look at the Allergy UK Seal of Approval, the ECARF Quality Seal, and EN 1822 filter certification — none of which appear on US review sites.
- Running costs are different. UK electricity is priced at the Ofgem rate (currently 24.5p/kWh, Q1 2026). We calculate every model's annual running cost using this rate and a 12-hour operating day — the same method across every page so comparisons are consistent.
How we score and compare models
Every model in our dataset is evaluated against the same criteria:
- CADR (Clean Air Delivery Rate): Where AHAM-verified data exists, we use it and label it as such. Where only manufacturer-stated figures are available, we say so. We convert CFM to m³/h at ×1.699 and display m³/h as the primary unit, since m² and m³/h are the units UK buyers and the EN standard use.
- Room coverage at 3 ACH: We calculate coverage using a 2.4 m ceiling height and a 3-air-changes-per-hour minimum — the standard recommended for allergen reduction. This is stricter than many manufacturers' headline figures, which often imply 1–2 ACH.
- UK certifications: We check and state the certification status of each UK SKU individually: Allergy UK Seal of Approval, ECARF Quality Seal, EN 1822 H13/H14 filter rating. These are binary facts — a model either holds the certification on the UK listing or it does not.
- 3-year true cost of ownership: Unit price + 3 years of electricity (watts × 12 h/day × 365 × Ofgem rate) + 3 years of filter replacements at the manufacturer's stated interval and current UK filter price. This is the most honest basis for comparing models at different price points.
- Noise at sleep speed: We record the manufacturer-stated dB(A) figure at the lowest fan speed for every model in the dataset, and compare them directly. Sleep-mode noise is the single most important spec for bedroom use.
What we do not do
We do not accept payment for rankings, reviews, or editorial placement. We do not accept free product samples in exchange for coverage. We do not have manufacturer advertising on this site. If a product appears here, it is because it earned a place in the UK dataset based on UK availability and published specification data — not because a brand relationship put it there.
Where a manufacturer claim is contested by independent evidence — for example, Shark's 5-year filter claim or Blueair's HEPASilent filtration positioning — we examine it honestly and present multiple scenarios rather than repeating the marketing copy.
