Quietest Air Purifier UK (2026): Ranked by Sleep-Mode dB
Updated: October 2026 · sleep-mode noise rankings · Prices checked 18 Oct 2026
dB ranking table — availability-verified models

What these dB levels actually sound like
dB reference scale
| 17 dB | Near-silent — quieter than a recording studio at rest. You will not hear the Blueair Mini Max in a quiet room. |
| 20 dB | Whisper at 1 m. The Coway Airmega 150 at this level is effectively inaudible once you are asleep. |
| 24 dB | Quiet library. Audible in a silent room if you listen for it; genuinely inaudible at normal bedroom background. The psychoacoustic difference from 20 dB is smaller than the number gap suggests — both are below ambient bedroom noise in most UK homes. |
| 30 dB | Quiet bedroom at night (background ambient). A purifier at 30 dB blends into the room noise in most UK homes. |
| 40 dB | Quiet office. Clearly audible; fine as background noise for many people but not ideal for a bedroom. |
The jump from 32–33 dB (Shark, Philips 600/3200) is more noticeable than the gap between 20 dB and 24 dB. If you are borderline noise-sensitive, the 24 dB cluster is the practical threshold for most sleepers. The Philips 2200 at 13 dB is genuinely inaudible in any bedroom environment.
Our top quiet picks
The quietest verified model in this comparison. At 17 dB it is near-silent — a level that most people cannot distinguish from a recording studio at rest. The caveat: it covers only 9 m² at 3 ACH, and the filter costs £59.98/yr — expensive relative to the room size it can service. It is the right pick for a very small room where silence is the absolute priority. Do not buy it for a standard bedroom expecting standard room coverage.
Note: HEPASilent technology (Blueair's electrostatic + mechanical filtration). Not True HEPA, not EN 1822 rated. Performs well in testing but the technology is different — see our Blueair 3250i review for the full caveat.
Buy on Amazon UK →The quietest model with adequate room coverage for most UK bedrooms (18 m² at 3 ACH). At 20 dB it is just above whisper level — effectively inaudible once asleep. ECARF certified (European Centre for Allergy Research Foundation), which makes it the only sub-25 dB pick with an independent allergy certification. The bedroom pick for allergy sufferers who cannot compromise on noise.
Commercial note: unit link goes via Awin-Coway. Replacement filter links route to Amazon UK (Coway's Awin programme does not pay filter commissions — see our filter replacement guide for the full note).
Buy Coway Airmega 150 →The quietest with adequate room coverage for most standard UK bedrooms (12 m² at 3 ACH) at the best price. At 24 dB the psychoacoustic difference from 20 dB is small — both are below ambient bedroom background noise in most UK homes. The 300S adds an air quality sensor and auto mode over the 200S; for a bedroom, auto mode at night is the use case. The £15 premium over the Core 200S is worth it at room sizes over 8 m².
Buy Levoit Core 300S →Same 24 dB sleep mode as the 300S, but covers 25 m² at 3 ACH. If your bedroom is over 15 m² or you want a single unit for a larger living room, the 400S is the quietest option at this room size. The 3-year cost per m² (£14.54) is the lowest of the Levoit range — the unit price is not the full story.
Buy Levoit Core 400S →The 24 dB cluster — four models tied on noise
The Core 200S, Core 300S, Core 400S, and Coway Airmega Mighty all share a 24 dB sleep mode. If noise is your primary concern and you are choosing between these four, pick by room size, not noise — they are equal on the one metric that brought you to this page.
- Core 200S (24 dB, 8 m²) — only for rooms genuinely 8 m² or under
- Core 300S (24 dB, 12 m²) — standard UK bedroom; best value in this cluster
- Core 400S (24 dB, 25 m²) — large bedroom or living room; lowest cost/m² in the cluster
- Coway Airmega Mighty (24 dB, 27 m²) — Allergy UK Seal differentiator; pick this over the 400S if certification matters to you and the room is 20–27 m²
CADR–noise trade-off: the quietest machine is not always the best
The Blueair Mini Max is the quietest machine in this list, but it covers only 9 m². If your room is 15 m², a 17 dB purifier that cannot clean your room is worse than a 24 dB purifier that can. Size to room first, then filter by noise.
Use the CADR calculator to find the minimum m³/h your room needs at 3 ACH, then filter this ranking table to models that meet it. The answer will almost always be: anything 24 dB or below in this list covers most UK bedroom sizes. The question becomes which model, not which noise level.
Sleep mode also reduces CADR — the machine runs slower, so it cleans less per hour. A 300S at 24 dB sleep mode delivers significantly less than its maximum 246 m³/h. If you need both quiet and maximum clean-air output simultaneously, the CADR-to-noise ratio at sleep speed (which manufacturers do not publish) becomes relevant. This is why we do not recommend running a 200S in a 12 m² room at sleep mode — the room-cleaning time extends past a reasonable overnight window.
