Best Air Purifier UK (2026)
Updated: October 2026 · Only UK-verified stock · Ofgem rate checked 18 Oct 2026
This page ranks air purifiers by 3-year total cost of ownership — purchase price plus three years of filters and electricity at the current Ofgem rate (24.5p/kWh, Q1 2026). This is not the ranking method most guides use. Most guides rank on CADR — which tells you how fast a machine moves air, but nothing about what it costs to own. A purifier with a high CADR and expensive filters can cost twice as much to run as a quieter, cheaper model covering the same room.
TCO ranks first, performance is context. Where two purifiers have similar 3-year costs, CADR and certification break the tie. Where a purifier dominates a specific use case — pets, smoke, bedroom, allergies — the relevant hub explains the detail. This page gives you the whole field in one table.

What the rankings reveal
The Levoit Core 200S wins on 3-year cost at £179.25, but it covers only 8m² at 3 ACH. The Core 300S at £230.70 covers 12m² and is the cheapest purifier on the list for genuine bedroom use. The shared reason: a £19.99 six-month filter and an 8W typical draw produce the lowest total even at a higher unit price than some rivals.
The Blueair Blue Max 3250i at £129 looks inexpensive — but its £35 six-month filter pushes the annual filter bill to £70, making the 3-year total £403.38. The Philips 2200 AC2220, by contrast, uses a 36-month filter interval (£15/yr) — driving its 3-year total to just £355.13, the lowest of any large-room model. Filter replacement interval matters more than unit price over a 3-year horizon.
The Shark NeverChange5 is the outlier: if its 5-year filter claim holds, its 3-year total sits at £426.56 — reasonable given the £299.99 unit price. But it uses 30W typically vs 8W for the Core 300S, and it has no washable pre-filter to protect the main filter in pet-heavy or dusty homes.
