Best Air Purifier for Pets UK (2026)
Updated: October 2026 · Only UK-verified stock · Prices checked 17 Oct 2026
Most "best for pets" guides rank purifiers on headline CADR and call it done. The problem: headline CADR tells you nothing about pet performance. What actually decides whether a purifier handles cat hair, dog dander and pet odour is the pre-filter design and the carbon section — the two parts most specs sheets skip over.
The pre-filter matters because pet fur cloaks the HEPA filter if there is nothing to catch it first. A washable pre-filter adds five minutes of maintenance every few weeks; without one, you are either replacing the HEPA filter early or running a clogged machine. Carbon matters because HEPA handles particles — not odour. The carbon type and how much of it is present determines whether your living room smells of your pets or not.
Pet-specific scoring table
Pre-filter type and carbon data from UK product listings. Pollen CADR in CFM (from AHAM or manufacturer) — UK m³/h figures not published by any of these manufacturers. CADR at sleep speed is the number that matters overnight; separate table below.
| Model | Pre-filter | Carbon | Pollen CADR (m³/h) | Covers (3 ACH) | UK price | Certification |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Levoit Core 400S | Washable nylon mesh | Activated carbon pellets | 374 converted from AHAM CFM |
25m² | £174.99 | None |
| Coway Airmega Mighty | Washable carbon pre-filter | Activated carbon + pre-filter combined | 408 converted from AHAM CFM |
27m² | £219.99 | Allergy UK Seal |
| Blueair Blue Max 3250i | Fabric pre-filter (machine-washable) | Carbon filter (separate) | 239 manufacturer (m³/h) |
33m² | £129.00 | None |
| Shark NeverChange5 HP072UK | No washable pre-filter | Activated carbon | 340 converted from AHAM CFM |
22m² | £299.99 | None |
m³/h figures: where the manufacturer publishes in m³/h, that figure is used directly. Where only AHAM CFM is published, converted at ×1.699 and labelled. Carbon weight not published by any manufacturer on these models — stated as such, not omitted silently.
Levoit Core 400S
The washable pre-filter handles fur build-up without costly replacements. High CADR covers larger rooms where pets live.

Coway Airmega Mighty
Allergy UK Seal means the dander claim is independently verified, not just manufacturer-stated. The washable pre-filter cuts the filter replacement burden.

Blueair Blue Max 3250i
Quiet at 18 dB and low-energy. The fabric pre-filter is machine-washable — the most convenient pet-hair and dander pre-filter feature in this comparison. Covers 33 m² at 3 ACH. HEPASilent technology — not EN 1822 rated.

Shark NeverChange5 HP072UK
The 5-year filter claim, if it holds, makes this the cheapest to run over time. No washable pre-filter is a downside for heavy shedders — fur loads the main filter faster. See the review for the honest filter-life analysis.

What to look for in a pet air purifier
1. A washable pre-filter is not optional
Pet fur is coarser and higher-volume than household dust. Without a washable pre-filter layer to catch it, fur compacts against the HEPA and shortens filter life significantly. A washable pre-filter adds a few minutes of weekly maintenance; without one, you will be replacing the HEPA filter more frequently than the manufacturer's stated interval.
The Shark NeverChange5 is the outlier: its 5-year filter claim is built around normal household use, not homes with heavy-shedding pets. With no washable pre-filter, pet owners using it in a multi-pet home should take the 5-year claim as a ceiling, not a guarantee.
2. Carbon for odour — HEPA alone is not enough
HEPA filters capture particles — dander, fur, dust — but they do not absorb gases or odour molecules. Pet odour is largely gaseous (volatile organic compounds from urine, faeces, skin oils). Carbon is what handles this. All four picks include a carbon stage, but carbon weight is not published by any manufacturer in this group. This is a genuine gap in the data — if a future lab test or independent review measures carbon weight, we will add it.
The Coway Airmega Mighty combines its carbon layer with the pre-filter stage, which means the carbon sees the air before the HEPA, not after. Whether this improves odour performance relative to a separate-stage design is not independently tested on UK units.
3. Room coverage at 3 ACH, not marketing coverage
Manufacturer room-size claims are typically at 1–2 ACH. The "covers (3 ACH)" column in the table above is the figure that matters for a room where pets live. A purifier rated for a 56m² room by its manufacturer covers roughly 22m² at 3 ACH — still adequate for most UK living rooms, but the gap between the claim and the usable figure is worth knowing. Use our room size calculator to find the minimum for your specific room.
Allergen links — pets and people
Pet dander is one of the primary indoor allergens. If someone in your household has allergies or asthma alongside pets, the Coway Airmega Mighty's Allergy UK Seal is the most robust certification currently held by any model in this comparison — it means the dander-capture claim has been independently tested and verified.
