Best Air Purifier for Dust UK (2026)

Updated: October 2026 · Only UK-verified stock · Prices checked 18 Oct 2026

Dust control in a UK home is as much a maintenance problem as a cleaning one. The air purifier's job is to reduce the amount of airborne dust settling on surfaces — but if the machine itself clogs with dust and you are not keeping the pre-filter clean, you are spending money to run a partially blocked unit. The two factors that matter most for dusty homes are pre-filter design (does it catch coarse dust before the HEPA?) and CADR at the speed you actually run the machine.

On CADR at medium speed: no manufacturer in this comparison publishes it. The max CADR figures are tested at full fan speed — a speed most people do not use daily because of the noise. The honest answer is that medium-speed CADR is unpublished across the board. We note this in the table; it is not a reason to avoid these machines, but it is a reason to size your purifier conservatively (pick based on room area at 3 ACH, not at 2 or 1).

Our picks: Levoit Core 400S (best overall), Blueair Blue Max 3250i (best for dusty bedrooms — washable pre-filter, 18 dB, 33 m²), Philips 3200 AC3220 (best if EN 1822 H13 grade matters). All three have a dedicated pre-filter stage that protects the HEPA from coarse dust.

CADR at medium speed — the honest table

Max CADR is tested at full fan speed. Medium-speed CADR is the figure that matters for daily use — but none of these manufacturers publish it. The table shows what is and is not known.

Model Max CADR (m³/h) CADR at medium speed Pre-filter Covers (3 ACH) Filter/yr
Levoit Core 400S 375
converted from AHAM CFM 221 × 1.699
Not published Nylon mesh (washable) 25m² £49.98
Blueair Blue Max 3250i 239
manufacturer (m³/h)
Not published Fabric pre-filter (machine-washable) 33m² £70.00
Philips 3200 AC3220/10 350
manufacturer (m³/h)
Not published Pre-filter stage (not washable) 24m² £64.99

Medium-speed CADR: not published by any manufacturer in this comparison — stated as such, not omitted silently. In practice, expect 40–65% of max CADR at medium fan speed, based on independent tests of similar motor classes; no UK-specific test data available for these models.

A note on DIY air quality boxes

Corsi-Rosenthal boxes (a box fan + multiple MERV-13 filters taped together) can move more air per pound than any packaged purifier in this comparison. For a dusty workshop, construction site, or large open-plan space, they are worth knowing about. They do not belong in a pick list on this page — they are not sold as consumer products and require assembly — but if you have a serious dust problem rather than a background household dust problem, they are a legitimate and cheaper option. A 20×20-inch MERV-13 filter costs around £8–12 on Amazon UK; four filters plus a box fan will outperform most purifiers under £200 at moving air through filter media.

Our picks for dust

Best overall for dust

Levoit Core 400S

£174.99
Checked Oct 2026

Highest CADR in this group at a mid-range price. The washable nylon pre-filter catches coarse dust before it reaches the HEPA, extending filter life in dusty homes. App-controlled auto mode adjusts fan speed with particle levels — useful in rooms where dust is periodic rather than constant.

Best for dusty bedrooms — quiet + washable pre-filter

Blueair Blue Max 3250i

£129.00
Checked Oct 2026

The machine-washable fabric pre-filter is the most convenient dust-maintenance feature in this comparison. CADR of 239 m³/h covers 33 m² at 3 ACH. At 18 dB sleep mode it is near-inaudible. Filter cost: £70/year (6-month cycle at £35/filter). HEPASilent technology — not EN 1822 rated.

Best if H13 EN 1822 matters

Philips 3200 AC3220/10

£249.99
Checked Oct 2026

The only purifier in this group with a confirmed EN 1822 H13 grade on the UK spec sheet. H13 means the filter is independently classified at 99.95% efficiency for 0.3µm particles — the size where dust mite allergen fragments and fine dust concentrate. At £249.99 it is the most expensive pick here; the 12-month filter interval keeps annual filter cost manageable at £64.99.

Dust mites vs dust particles — what HEPA actually filters

Dust mites themselves (200–300µm) are not airborne — they live in bedding, soft furnishings, and carpet. A HEPA filter will not remove dust mites from your mattress. What it does capture is dust mite allergen fragments (Der p 1, Der p 2 — typically 1–20µm), which become airborne when disturbed by movement, vacuuming, or bed-making. These fragments are in the particle size range where HEPA is highly effective.

The practical implication: a purifier running while you vacuum or change bedding will capture the allergen spike those activities create. Running it permanently in a bedroom reduces background airborne allergen load. Neither replaces washing bedding at 60°C, which kills mites directly, but the combination of both is the evidence-based approach for dust mite allergy management.
